Cape Coral's G-Force Track Club sending three members to Jr. Olympics

Three local athletes are getting ready to create what they hope will be a splash on the national Track & Field stage in the very near future.

Jordynn Simpson, Austin Lovell, and Elizabeth Williamson of Cape Coral's G-Force Track Club have qualified to participate in the upcoming 2017 AAU Junior Olympics, held outside Detroit, Michigan at the end of this month.

The competition, which begins July 31 in Detroit, will pit the three against some of the best young athletes from around the country.

Cape Police to hold accreditation assessment public input sessions

A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., (CALEA), will arrive on Sunday, August 13, 2017.

The team will be in Cape Coral to examine all aspects of the Cape Coral Police Department, and 9-1-1 Communications Center’s policies, procedures, management, and operations, Chief David Newlan recently announced.

Sanborn passed away Friday afternoon after suffering a stroke at his home on Tuesday.

Cape Police release results of July 15 DUI operation

On Saturday, July 15, the Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) DUI Operation as part of a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The operation was a saturation patrol consisting of four officers. Officers were focused on identifying and taking impaired drivers off the road.

Cape Coral Election 2017- Candidates for City Council (District 6)

For our last feature in our series of candidate profiles, we look at the residents running for Cape Coral's District 6 City Council seat.

In this race, two have come forward to participate, current District 6 Council Member Rick Williams and Northwest Cape Coral resident John Karcher.

Coming to the conclusion of his first term in office, Williams is seeking his second term in office to continue what he says is has been laying the foundation of moving Cape Coral forward.

CCPD Traffic Enforcement Update (July 14)

The Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Unit is providing this notice as part of their continuing efforts to increase traffic safety awareness and education.

These daily notices (Monday-Friday) will identify possible locations that the department are conducting enforcement operations and results from the previous day's operation.

All is being done by the department to emphasize the importance of obeying traffic laws to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths on our roads here in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral Election 2017- Candidates for City Council (District 5)

The race for the City Council District 5 seat is a late entry into this year's election.

The need for the addition of the district came after current District 5 City Council Member Rana Erbrick announced her resignation to participate in the race for mayor.

 

With Erbrick's announcement, two candidates came forward to bid for finishing out her term, which concludes in 2019.

The two candidates represent two different backgrounds.
