It was four years ago, when officials from the upstart Cape Coral Hurricane's men's soccer team and city leaders gathered at City Hall to announce the formation of Cape Coral’s first semi-professional soccer team.
Since that time, the Hurricanes organization has been working hard to put Southwest Florida’s largest city in the sports spotlight.
Over the weekend, the team announced they will kick off their third competitive season in the 4th Division of U.S. Soccer this spring.

It was a bittersweet weekend for Cape Junior Pop Warner football, as the 2014 season came to an end for two of its teams.
But, not before both teams took to the field to play for their conference championships.
On Saturday, the Cape Junior Barracudas and Dolphins took to the field in North Fort Myers in hopes of capturing their respective conference championships and continue their journey to a national championship.
However, by the end of the day both teams would go home just short of the opportunity to play next weekend.

This past weekend, the Peace River Pop Warner Football playoffs kicked off around Southwest Florida.
Cape Coral was well represented with five teams seeing action in the first round of playoff action. This year's playoffs saw three teams from the Cape Youth League (Lightning, Thunder, and Hurricanes) and two teams from the Cape Junior League (Barracudas and Dolphins).
However, by the end of Saturday only two remained to advance to the next round.

This week’s highlighted Pop Warner football games features the Mitey Mite and Junior Pee Wee teams from Cape Junior taking on the Immokalee Seminoles.
In the first game, the Cape Junior Cobias got off to a quick start by jumping out to a 12-0 first quarter lead. By halftime, the Cobias extended the lead to 18-0.
The three touchdowns scored by Cape Junior in the first half ended up doing the trick, as the Cobia defense maintained its first half dominance and did not allow the Seminoles anywhere near the end zone on their way to an 18-0 shutout.
