This past Saturday, the City of Cape Coral's Parks & Recreation Department hosted its eighth annual Cape Coral Sprint Triathlon.

This year's race saw the event return to its traditional May calendar after being held last year in October due to a parking lot resurfacing project at the Yacht Club.

As always, the race began on the beach of the Cape Coral Yacht Club with dozens of racers diving into the waters of the Caloosahatchee River just after 7:00am as they undertook a grueling course through the city's historic district.

After a quarter mile swim in the river, racers returned to the beach, sprinting through the sand and making their way to their bicycles to embark on an eleven mile, two loop course before concluding the race with a 5K run finishing where they started, on the Yacht Club Beach.

For the fastest, it took just under an hour. For most, it was a bit longer. For others, it was a lot longer. However, for all, it was a rewarding experience that provided a sense of conquering and accomplishment.
