The Cape Coral Junior Marlins football team kept their 2016 season alive by capturing the Peace River Pop Warner Conference Pee Wee Championship over the weekend in Venice.

The Marlins brought home the championship by defeating the Immokalee Seminoles by a score of 16-14.

The Marlins dominated the game but, a few long plays by the Seminoles kept the game a nail-biter until the end.

The win was a culmination of a dominating season by the Marlins who chalked up their tenth win of the season on Saturday versus just one defeat suffered in the first game of the season.

Saturday's championship game was the third year in a row Marlins head coach Jason Hause coached. However, it was the first that he has won, "This win sort of validates being in the last two and coming up short. It is a fantastic feeling, and I can't tell you how proud the coaches and I are of these kids. They have played hard all year and deserve to be called this year's champions."

With the victory, the Marlins will now move into the Florida Pop Warner Regional Playoffs. The first round of those playoffs will take place this Saturday, November 5. The Marlins will take on the Clermont, FL Knights at the North Fort Myers Community Park at 12:00pm.

The winner of that game will move on to the Regional Finals, which take place in Orlando.
