Pop Warner Pics of the Week: Peace River Conference Playoffs
This past Saturday, three Cape Junior Pop Warner football teams competed in the first round of the Peace River Pop Warner playoffs.
The Pee Wee Marlins and Junior Varsity Sharks traveled to Port Charlotte, while the Junior Pee Wee Barracudas stayed home to host their Venice counterparts.
In Port Charlotte, the Marlins (9-1) took on the Englewood Cats (6-4).
The Marlins jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to an impressive 26-0 shutout of the Cats.
Unfortunately, the Sharks had a tougher go of it, playing the Venice Crusaders in a classic defensive battle.
The first points of the game were not scored until midway through the third quarter when the Crusaders' defense took advantage of a Sharks fumble handing the ball over to their offense, who made their way down the field finding the end zone breaking the 0-0 stalemate.
As it turned out; that was all the Crusaders needed, as their defense shut down the Sharks for the remainder of the game, ending the Sharks' season with an 8-2 overall record.
At home, the Junior Pee Wee Barracudas cruised to a 31-0 victory over Venice, keeping their undefeated season going at 10-0 and punching their ticket to the Peace River Junior Pee Wee Championship against the 9-1 Port Charlotte Bandits.
Both the Barracudas and Marlins continue their quest for their respective titles this Saturday as they take part in the 2016 Peace River Conference Championships in Venice.
