Cape Coral Conversations: District Seven Council Member Derrick Donnell

Over the past decade, Cape Coral has ridden a rollercoaster full of highs and lows.

Sitting in the front row for much of the ride has been current Cape Coral City Council Member Derrick Donnell.

Elected in 2007, Donnell has spent the past eight years serving as the city’s District Seven City Council Member.

During that time, Donnell has oversaw a city ravaged by an economic downturn that affected nearly everyone that called Cape Coral home.

Cape Coral Conversations: Civic Assoc. President, Graham Morris

Cape Coral resident Graham Morris first came on the local political scene in 2013, when he made a run for the city’s district one city council seat.

Although Morris was not successful in his bid, he has remained active in the community by serving on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and the city’s Charter Review Committee.

Cape Coral Conversations: Charter School Superintendent Nelson Stephenson

On December 15, 2014, Nelson Stephenson was announced as the new Superintendent for the city’s Charter School System.

A resident of Cape Coral for the past two and a half years, the new position was sort of a homecoming for him and his family.

All but his time going to college in North Carolina, Stephenson has spent his entire life from three months old in Southwest Florida.

Cape Coral Conversations: District Two Council Member John Carioscia

It was four years ago that Cape Coral resident John Carioscia was elected as Cape Coral’s district two city council member.

Over those years, Carioscia has been a part of two councils that have worked to bring the city back from the recent economic downturn that has been felt by all.

As he approaches the four-year mark, I had the opportunity to sit down with the council member to discuss his time in office, the accomplishments he feels have been made, the obstacles and opposition he has faced, as well as what he feels the future holds for Cape Coral.
