The recent promotion of Dave Newlan to Cape Coral Chief of Police is a true story of homegrown talent rising to the highest level.
Newlan grew up in Cape Coral graduating Cape Coral High School in 1985.
In the early 1990's trying to figure out the next step in his life, Newlan joined a friend, who was a police officer for a ride along. Immediately "bitten by the bug" Newlan soon found himself as a member of the Cape Coal Police beginning a 25-year career all under the Cape Coral Police banner.

Leading those efforts from the City Hall side was Cape Coral City Manager John Szerlag. In 2015, Szerlag began implementing the initiatives that had been set in place since his arrival in 2012.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Szerlag to hear his thoughts on some of the initiatives launched over the past few years, as well as what he feels is in store for Cape Coral moving into the future.
